Pups on the Patio!

So, I work at a bar one night a week, Blind Bob’s, which I talk about here from time to time. Well, we decided to have a night where people can bring their dogs and come mingle with their favorite two legged and four legged friends. So Tuesday night was dubbed for doggies!

I was commissioned to make some treats.

But… I’m me. So I don’t do anything halfway. I go all out.

Quite a few people came out, despite the cold. I think it’s safe to say, good times were had by all.

Soooo if you’re not doing anything tonight… you know where to find me and Eddy!
Here’s a photo of him in a boat.

Want to make your own yummy dog bones? I pulled this recipe off the web. It’s pretty easily customized though! I used beef broth instead of chicken and I added a couple of finely diced up organic carrots. I’ve made these before with a dash of liquid smoke for flavor as well!

2 teaspoons dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons dry parsley
2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons honey
1 egg
5-6 cups whole wheat flour

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in the parsley, garlic, broth, honey, and egg. Gradually blend in flour, adding enough to form a stiff dough.

Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball, and roll to 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Using small bone-shaped cookie cutters, make biscuits! Transfer to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until lightly browned on both sides. Let cool overnight.

Reddit Secret Santa!

Hey all! Hope your holiday season is going well! I have been a busy, busy bee!
One thing I participated in this year was Reddit.com’s secret Santa gift exchange. I knew what I wanted to make my match!
I whipped up a triple chocolate cherry cake! Chocolate cake with chocolate chips, chocolate frosting and filled with cherries. Nom.
Then I decorated it for the theme!
photo.JPG

Entirely edible, mind you, I used my food color markers to add some outline detail :)
I wrapped the cake in wax paper and plastic and placed it in this tin for, hopefully, safe shipping :)

You know me, I always have to make something fun and unique haha.
I sent this along with some other various sweets, some comics and a Star Trek key chain!
I hope this redditor enjoys the cake! I sort of wanted to take a bite out of it myself!

As for the rest of my weekend, I’ve been crazy busy!
We shopped all weekend with my in laws and I wrapped like a crazy person.

If my nieces could stop being so cute, I could stop buying them so much stuff! lol

We also got our tree FINALLY this weekend. Brian wouldn’t let me get one as colossal as the one I got last year haha. I like the one we picked.

Eddy Turns 4!

My sweet, sweet chihuahua turned four and it’s become tradition to make him cakes every year! Not just any cakes though, meaty dog cakes :)

In case you missed the last post about this, check out: Eddy’s 2nd Birthday! and Eddy’s Third Birthday!

I sort of make up the recipe every year as I go along… flour, eggs, chicken stock… some sort of protein like chicken or beef, carrots, beans… good stuff. I pulsed it all together in the food processor and poured it into a greased pan.

Yum? lol
I baked it at 350F for 45 minutes.
Then I made mashed potatoes with no butter or anything, just a little water. I tinted them with food coloring and used them as frosting.
End result:

Perfect.

With all the banner panels my friends made for him!

He was a tiny bit scared of the fire haha.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped make Eddy’s birthday special! He was such a happy pup! Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Very happy to announce this cake has been featured on musthavecute.com! I love being featured there! Spread on the cake joy!

Dog Birthdays

Listen, dogs are people too. Er… well, that is to say, they’re part of the family. And since I’m evidently reproductively challenged, my dog is like my child. And that child is turning 4 on the 15th of July! *sniffle* They grow up SO FAST! Well, my tiny man is super spoiled and everyone loves him… so this is your chance to share the love!

Please download this banner template in the large size from my flickr and design your own panel! Then email it to me at plasticshakeupsnow@gmail.com and I will download and print off all the panels made! Then I will create a banner for Eddy’s party and you’ll all get to be a part of it!
Eddy's Birthday banner!

Download the largest size (actually labeled medium 640×621)here on flickr by right clicking to save to your computer.

Have fun with it! Use photos or ms paint, use photoshop or if you can figure out how to print it out, draw on it and scan it back in and make it the same size again, well more power to you. haha. Make Eddy’s birthday fun!

Here’s a look at his past two birthdays!

When little man turned 3 last year I made him this cake!

And he got his first cake at two years old!

Full post here!

I look forward to posting this year’s cake! Suggest the color combination for his potato “frosting” and go create those banners! The party is July 15th!

Happy Birthday Eddy!

Some of you might find me crazy, but I think it’s more like awesome.

My dog turned 3 yesterday. I want kids- I love kids- I don’t have kids. So… I spoil my chihuahua. He is my baby. Well… he’s getting older now- I mean come on, he’s 21 in dog years!

I texted my husband and reminded him, hey it’s the dog’s birthday. He immediately said we HAD to do something for him. I said duh, we’ll make a cake like last year. Brian even picked out the colors.

In any case, I like ANY reason for cake. Even if I can’t eat it.
I made this cake out of all things nommable for dogs.
Carrots, beans, beef, eggs, flour, rice, olive oil… a little paprika, a drop of liquid smoke… good stuff.

I pureed this and baked it. Then I colored some mashed potatoes (no butter or milk) and used them as “icing” lol

He loved it of course!

Big hit. The cat didn’t want any. Well, he had a few nibbles, but Eddy finished his piece.
