Transformers Cake… take… what now? Three?

I believe this is the 3rd Transformers cake I’ve made. Possibly the 4th. I forget. It’s for sure, one of the coolest.

I decided I wanted to make “metal” panels for the sides of this cake. I cut the panels from grey fondant and then added “screws” to the corners by cutting little circles and scoring them.
I lined the cake with the panels and then painted them with edible silver shimmer. A few “rusty” accents and I was loving how it was shaping up.
Finally, I decided to add some “patches” here and there for a more worn look. I was really happy with the results!

Funny enough, when I went to cut out the logo, I planned to print it out, lay it over my fondant and cut from there. Well, my printer had other plans and refused to print! I was furious, but I calmed myself down and cut the design out free hand, using a photo on my phone as reference. Not bad if I do say so myself.

I love this cake!

Also, wish me luck… I’m fighting the mobs to go Christmas shopping today lol.

Show Jane Some Support… She’s 50!

I wish I could take credit for this clever cake idea, but this is what my friend Jane requested haha.

She wanted something funny and cute for her 50th birthday and this was just the thing.

I hand made the bra by piecing together fondant…

I tried to be as detailed as possible, adding lace and stitching and other little details here and there like the lacing.

I must say, it all came together nicely!

Hilariously, in the end, I had to fill the bra cups with icing so they could stand on their own, as I didn’t have time to dry the piece for several days haha!

Steak Cake Take Two!

I think this is technically my third steak cake related post lol. It just turns out that the steak cake is a popular subject…
And I think I’ve really perfected this whole thing haha.

I decided to make a label… I did a google image search and found a label I liked. I made a few… changes to it lol

I even made some garnish for this one. Some leaves to kind of set off the whole thing like it’s sitting on a nice bed of greens.

Of course, the cake was red velvet.

I’m told he didn’t even want to cut it! :D

Beyblade Arena Cake

I got a call from someone my mother referred to my site. She was wondering if I could make her grandson a cake. She asked if I could make a Beyblade Arena cake. I had literally no idea what that meant or what she was talking about, but I promised to google it and call her. I didn’t know what Yo-Gabba-Gabba was either, but we know I was able to make some cool Yo Gabba cakes!

I googled it and found this thing:

Someone likened it to Crossfire from when I was a kid. I don’t remember if my brother had a Crossfire, but I do totally remember the commercials.

Now, I don’t really think this thing is as awesome looking as Crossfire, but a.)What do I know? and b.)Unless they have an AWESOME commercial like that, I don’t think anything could look as cool as Crossfire.

In any case, all that aside, I decided I would gladly make the cake. I knew I couldn’t make the arena super deep like that because they wouldn’t have any cake to eat! So I made it pretty shallow. I covered the cake with white fondant and then airbrushed the red on. Let me just say HOLY CRAP. That made my life so much easier. Making red fondant is SUCH a hassle and it always wants to turn pink. It takes up a ton of color and then ends up practically inedible and gives it a crap texture. No thank you. Because of that, I’ve been weary of making cakes with large amounts of red, but never again!!

It’s SO RED. So happy about that.

I made a couple little disc things. No idea what their technical term is. I mean… they’re not cars. They’re like… disc things. So yeah. I didn’t stick them onto the cake so the kid could pick them up and move them around and stuff lol.

Yup. So.. that’s Beyblade. Lot’s of red, not quite crossfire, possibly something to do with anime??? Just not sure haha. But I sure made it out of cake.

I’m getting started on a killer wedding cake tonight. I can’t wait to show you guys. This will be the second wedding cake I’ve ever made and it’s for two special people who I adore. So I have to make this cake super adorable just like they are! The colors are white, purple and black. It’s going to be very unique and I can’t wait!

Rock n’ Roll and Cake

My husband is a great guy… like, seriously. He’s very talented. I know that I sort of have to say that… because he’s my husband, but I really mean it! He is in several bands at the moment. One of those bands is called Auburndale. He sings and plays guitar in the band. They’ve spent a long time working on their new record and even after some issues with the pressing of the cds (the company sent them their cds packaged in cases that belonged to a band from GERMANY!), they worked out all the kinks and last night we celebrated with a great rock show at Blind Bob’s, where he and I both work.
I knew I had to make a cake for them! And what better than to try to replicate their album artwork!

Auburndale CD release party cake

Granted, I didn’t match the color so well, but I don’t think I’ve ever painted something this large with food color and I wasn’t even sure it was going to work! I mixed food color gel with a bit of vodka and painted it all by hand. The vodka evaporates, so no, this cake will not get you drunk!

The inside of the cake was red velvet!
The bar is right by our house, so I decided I didn’t need to put the cake in a box. We made one stop before the bar and by the time we got back into the car, I completely forgot that the cake was in the back seat. My husband slammed on the breaks at a stop light and I felt something hit the back of my seat… I just knew. I knew RIGHT AWAY what it was. I freeeaked out and jumped out of the car right there at the light. The cake was teetering on the edge of the seat and had slid forward on the cake board. The left corner hit the seat and was slightly dented, but the fondant didn’t tear. Holy cow. I can’t explain to you the heart attack I had!

Once we got to the bar I got some great ego boosting attention from everyone about the cake. People all wanted to eat it and by the time the second band started, I knew I had to go ahead and cut the cake before someone cut me!

By the end of the night the cake was gone and everyone was thanking me. It was a great night!

Auburndale’s album Alive in a Dying City is for sale on itunes and on Amazon.

Here they are playing acoustic at the local radio station (interview here.)

More music on their myspace.

I feel so lucky to live in a place where people still support local music. Some people might think the music scene here is dead, but working at this bar has shown me that we still have a great little tight knit community of people who just genuinely love music. I can’t thank everyone in Dayton, Ohio enough for that. <3

Teirs of Joy

I love making tiered cakes!

This was for a bridal shower:

Not the best photo lol. All completely edible! The roses and petals were done with fondant. The inside is strawberry/vanilla zebra cake!

This was for a 21st birthday! The cake was being driven about 2 hours away! Glad I was able to make this. I hope the birthday girl loved it!
21st birthday cake

All fondant except the boarder. The 21 was candy melt. The tiara lit up!

I love everything about this cake. The colors, the fondant, the zebra.
Also, the inside is all chocolate/vanilla zebra cake!
