Up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun…

My niece turned 3 this year and wow… she is just cute as a button!
She wanted a Little Mermaid cake which I thought was super awesome. I mean hey… that’s the kind of cake I would have wanted when I was a kid!

I wanted it to have a cool “under the sea” feeling to it, so I piped coral and sea weed onto wax paper using candy melt. Then when it cooled, I attached it to the side of the cake. I iced the cake with yummy blue buttercream and topped it with the perfect cake topper candle!

It was a huge hit!
I was so excited to see that they’d picked up Ariel plates and cups as well!

And… of COURSE… I had to make the inside count!

Birthday Under the Sea

One of my best friends just had a birthday and I knew right away what had to be done. She LOVES the Little Mermaid. Don’t tell me we’re too old for that ;)
I did a buttercream transfer of Ariel for this cake. I was so scared it wouldn’t turn out! I knew it had to be perfect. I mean, she’s a super recognizable character. You just can’t mess her up. When I was checking flickr for inspiration I saw some pretty jacked up Ariel cakes lol.

She loved the cake!

Everyone kept asking what kind of cake it was inside and I kept telling them it was a surprise!
I made the inside striped like Flounder!

Then we took the best bathroom photo of all time!

And we all lived happily ever after!
